A Safety Message from the City of Mesa’s Energy Resources Department

Here is the story on the picture. Now this is pretty major, and probably won’t happen when your planting your bed of roses. Just be aware that natural gas is a dangerous property.

August 11 (8/11) is a day recognized nationally to remind everyone that placing a free call to 811 before digging is not only the law, it avoids outages and expenses, and is an important part of overall safety.

Are you planning a digging or excavating project?  If you are, here are two things you need to know…

  • Contact the Arizona Blue Stake Center two days prior to starting your project to have underground utilities located and marked.  Calling them is easy and FREE, simply dial 811.

  • You are not officially ready to dig until all utilities have been properly located and marked.  Use caution when digging, always dig around the marks, not on them.  Some utility lines may be buried at a shallow depth and an unintended shovel thrust can bring potentially dangerous and/or costly consequences.

If you damage a natural gas pipeline while digging/excavating, call us immediately at 480-644-4277 (GASS) and 911.
